Cut it out

In addition to a fun hike in Hatcher Pass, my nieces gave me a haircut. They used the same precision cutting techniques as they did on the lawn. Both Sarah and Granny Sue leave today (sad) and Lucy stays til Monday.

Granny Sue's Back

Sue Howell came back for another visit and Liam is happy to see her again. She participated in Liam's first photo shoot after cousins Sarah and Lucy dressed him up in his new tractor outfit. Sarah and Lucy's moms used to dress Steve up when he was a baby. Lucy and Sarah hiked up Flattop today and just biked downtown to look for souvenirs.

Another primo prima

Liam got to meet another of his cousins, Lucy Nickolay, who flew up from Minneapolis yesterday. She went kayaking with cousin Sarah and had a nice time holding Liam. She and Sarah are off on an adventure today to Girdwood and Portage to see glaciers and wildlife. Liam now weighs 10 lbs and 7oz and the doctor said that he's doing better.

All four of us were hiking yesterday when Liz spotted a black bear about 100 yards away from us. Couldn't get any pictures of it and we found another spot to hike.

Flushing It Out

Liz and Liam both had to flush cows milk out for a day to see if it was causing Liam's allergy. So far it seems to be doing the trick.

Dairy Free

Steve and I have had some challenging lessons in parenting this week. Lesson # 1 is that the worrying increases dramatically after 1 AM. We took Liam into the pediatrician on Wednesday because he had some blood in his diaper, and the doctor checked for a few things but said that the cause is probably an allergy to cow's milk that he is getting from me through my breast milk. So, for 24 hours we gave him a bottle of some high powered soy formula and I pumped milk while getting the cow's milk out of my syestem. I started breast feeding him again yesterday and he hasn't shown any signs of the digestive distress since then. We are glad that he is feeling better and getting used to the idea that I will need to live dairy free for a while. Lesson # 2 is to keep things in perspective. While we have been busy worrying and thinking about his health Liam marches on gaining weight (up to 10 lbs), practicing little smiles and looking at the world around him. So we will just keep taking it one day at a time. If any one has any great dairy free recipes send them my way!

Seven weeks today

At least that's what I think. Math is getting harder. Liam's friend Alex came over to teach him out to be a happy baby. And we practiced some more head holding. He's anxiously awaiting Saturday as he gets to meet his first cousin.

Liam and daddy walked down to see Liz finish the Run for Women this morning. Unfortunately it started raining and Liz's bike got a flat tire. But we made it home.

Heads Up

Our son now wieghs 9 lbs 6oz and we are very happy. Liam is also learning to hold his head up. He likes to bang his head around a lot on our chests. Amy and Max came over to say hi to Liam and see what being a baby is about.
